Venus as a Boy, Bjork, 1993
"Venus as a Boy" is playing at full volume inside my head right now. "He believes in beauty." Cool cool cool. Having Bjork and all her dramatic bigness with me this morning is a very good thing. It's nice to wake up in such a happy theatrical Bjork way. It's nice waking up with someone who taught me so much about living out loud, too.
Funny, though, out loud is actually on pause for me. Yeah, my throat is literally on fire so Bjork style yell-singing is definitely not happening. It's so very not fun but being sickly did give me a good excuse to spend yesterday with some surefire medicine. Ahhh, my go-to playlist of around 1,000 of my favorite tunes. Of the 100+ songs I listened to yesterday, I am loving that this Bjork song stuck in my psyche. It's a special one.
Hmmm. 22-year-old me devoured this song on repeat. "His wicked sense of humor suggests exciting sex." How's that for an earth-shattering sentiment? "He sets off the beauty in her." Goals. This song taught me I deserve all the love from a beautiful boy. Knowing is only half the battle, though. 54-year-old me actually believes I deserve all the love.
If I could sing, I would want my voice to be so completely deeply expressive just like Bjork. The way Bjork fully embodies all aspects of a song is a rare gift. Indeed. Bow down to Bjork -- queen mother weirdo and mystical creature.
Happy Saturday!
