Perfect Pair, Beabadoobee, 2022
Well, hey there, Bea. Thank you for the cool, jazzy, shoegazey tune rousing me from my slumber. Perfect Pair is one of my favorite songs in recent memory. It's a dream sequence bedroom pop song with a harbinger's warning edge.
Oh Bea, what a big Bossa Nova beat you have. To that quip, I swear I hear Bea answering in her sweet, soothing but dangerous tone, "all the better to rattle your core with, my dear." Absolutely.
I love Beabadoobee. Watching her rise from indie obscurity the past several years has been pretty inspiring. She's a very instinctual artist. She's an adventurous songwriter, too. I love how nothing about Bea feels formula but she just naturally hooks hard. She fearlessly opens doors and walks through with eyes wide open. You know we're the same.
When I fall in love with artists like Beabadoobee, Laufey, Japanese Breakfast, Clairo, Blondshell ... I can't help but wonder what it's like to be a girl mom right now -- you know, in the female singer/songwriter era that Taylor built. I wonder what it feels like to be the hand rocking that cradle. Pure power.
