Never Been to Spain, Three Dog Night, 1971


I woke up from a nightmare with this old song jockeying to be my new friend. Hmmm. How about that? "Never Been to Spain" is a bluesy odd sort of power ballad that's been stalking me this week. I'm not mad at all ... just surprised because it feels a little off brand for me.


I admit, I'm kind of in love with this song right now. It makes me think of my bestie. He's a rare gem who makes my life better with zero work. He's seen a lot of places and done a lot of things, too. Keeper.


People can be a lot, y'all. Like, a lot a lot. I am so down for adding old songs to my life as new friends instead of unnecessarily "peopleing" up my life too much. So, step right up, classic rock tunes. I like that this one is first in line. This is a great song, y'all. When me and the boys are back in town, we'll definitely cover "Never Been to Spain."


Truth is, I don't know much about Three Dog Night. The one thing I do know is, they didn't write their own songs and that's a turn off. Of course, for every band or artist who doesn't write their own songs, there's a working songwriter making a living off them. I'm OK with that.
