And Fools Shine On, Brother Cane, 1995
Rediscovering a favorite band is such a powerful experience for me. Case in point: The 90s came and went and I forgot how much I love Brother Cane. What? I can't believe I let that happen. Must. Remedy.
Brother Cane's guitarist, Huntsville native Dave Anderson, was recently part of a local charity concert. His rendition of Bowie's "Changes" slayed. Yep. I've been headfirst down the Brother Cane rabbit hole ever since. I have so much respect for working talent, friends. That's Dave. He loves being a musician ...
Holy wow -- I really really love this song, y'all. It's not my favorite of theirs but it's all in my head right now. You know? I had Brother Cane on repeat this weekend and turns out, I still dig their entire catalog. Deep, poetic lyrics lovingly paired with screaming Southern guitars. Good stuff, y'all.
I'll never forget being an early adopter during the meteoric rise of Alabama's Brother Cane back in the early 90s. My seat was reserved on the bandwagon from the minute I heard rumblings of the guitar-driven, Southern rock-infused Birmingham band in the Shoals grapevine.
My Brother Cane love was the first time I felt a sense of pride in my fandom. Since we were (roughly) from the same place, I had an odd feeling of ownership with Brother Cane, too. I still feel that sort of connection with the music. It's like a familial tie or like the tie you have with your childhood best friend.
What a great band. Happy Monday!
