Bang a Gong (Get It On), T. Rex, 1971


Ahh. I saw this one coming. Bang a Gong has been firmly planted as my earworm since last night. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I love this song so much -- it's such a crazy cool song, y'all. It never gets old. Imagine that. Legendary.


The original song -- 1971 T. Rex/Marc Bolan -- is dirty sweet but it's mind boggling to think about all the really great covers, too. Wanna guess the version rolling through my brain? Take your pick.


There are so many days where Bang a Gong is my inner monologue. "Clad in black, don't look back," these lyrics are good at pushing me through the motions of daily life. "Hubcap diamond star halo ... I'm your girl." Yep, that's me. BTW, I do dance when I walk.


I'm laughing a little right now about how it's funny/weird to be the old lady fading into obscurity but yet this is an example of what's playing in my head. Until now, I didn't believe it to be true but women disappearing as they age is a real thing. It hurts, too. I may be invisible now but I am still invincible. Get it on.
