Blue Sky, Allman Brothers Band, 1972
Drumroll please: And ... the winner is ... Blue Sky. Yes. That's what's been my constant earworm since Godfather Fiddle, Kelvin Holly, laid it on me last night at the Muscle Shoals Meets the 70s rock show. More on that later but right now, let's talk about the Allman Brothers and this jewel of a song. After all, I'm your early morning sunshine, right?
I'm not surprised at all to have Blue Sky on repeat in my brain. That's actually nothing new to me. If I venture to guess, I bet Blue Sky is my earworm companion maybe a solid 10% of my year. Yep, it's very special to me. It makes me smile and think of my BFF. It's a super sweet twist, though, to have Kelvin's loving rendition of this life staple song in my head right now -- that's a beautiful first. Ear candy, y'all.
Music is life, friends. This 5-minute+ song with its relatively sparse verbal lyrics is heavy on instrumental lyricism. Right? I love this song. I love the Allman Brothers. I love my hometown. These are joys in life that make me whole. Thank you, universe.
See you tonight for round two of Muscle Shoals Meets the 70s -- it's gonna be a doozy. Dig those groovy worms, baby. Oh, and ... eat a peach. 🍑
