I Will Survive, Gloria Gaynor, 1978
Of all the 1970s songs I've had on repeat for the past month or so, I'm kinda loving waking up to this femi-power anthem. Nicely played, universe. You know it's true -- I will survive. You will survive, too. We've got so much life to live and so much love to give.
Yes. Hello, timeless treasure. Thank you for pushing me through life. Holy, holy, holy at the stand still and listen magnetism of this intro. Piano much? Talk about a relentless hook that won't let go. Perfect. This story -- this song -- brings all the soul-stirring feels time and time again regardless of whether it's 1978 or 2025. It's not trying too hard. It's not trying to be anything except the truth. That's art. Magic.
By the way, Muscle Shoals Meets the 70s is less than a week away. I can neither confirm nor deny but it's possible that our very own Kozmic Mama herself, Carla Russell, backed by the world-famous Fiddleworms, of course, will gift us her rendition of this song at some point during the rock show. Oh please let it be true ...
So looking forward to getting lost in the 70s, y'all. Better get your tickets. Two nights, two sets, two playgrounds, one community. Dig worms.
