We Are the Champions, Queen, 1977
So, this is new. Good morning, Queen. Love you but I'm not sure how I feel about waking to such a dramatic, iconic anthem. Hey Freddie! What exactly are you doing in my head this morning anyway? Sure, I've been revisiting lots of my photos, music, and memories from the 70s but I'm thinking there's a deeper meaning to having this slow-burn banger's narrative pumping power into my veins right now.
Is there a more perfect "victory" sing-a-long than We Are the Champions? No-brainer -- the answer is, "no," y'all. There has never and will never be a more powerful celebratory anthem than We Are the Champions. It's not even up for discussion. How can one song be so reassuring and uplifting? How can one song give both intense personal motivation and be a bonding battle cry for all of humanity at the same time? That voice. That emotion. That power. Not only will we persevere, we will win. Freddie decrees.
Here's something to think about: Does Queen stand alone? Sure, this song is untouchable but is the entire Queen catalog also on a different plane than other rock? Is Queen as a band absolutely incomparable, friends? Hmm. Freddie Mercury's genius was one for the ages for sure. Queen's magic is just a glamour without Freddie. Often imitated but never duplicated.
Let's win life, y'all. Go be a champion.
BTW: 19 days until MSM the 70s. 😀
