Today's Song of the Day
Down in a Hole, Alice in Chains, 1992
Well, this a nice surprise. Good morning, Alice in Chains -- it's nice having Layne and Jerry cushioning my Monday morning emergence into the real world. Isn't it crazy fascinating how our brains work? I had a great new music weekend -- y'all the new Wet Leg album is phenomenal -- but then, I took a little detour and gave Dirt a spin. Yeah. It's an AIC day for sure.
How great is this song? Some of my most favorite lyrics ever are reverberating in my brain right now. "I'd like to fly ... but my wings have been so denied." I'm reminded of how it's easy to get caught down in a hole. It's easy to spiral to a place where we feel so small. Sometimes, it's not so easy to fly even when that's what we desperately want and need.
You know what I love? Meeting a unicorn. You know what I Iove even more? Bonding with said unicorn over music. Do we have to like all the same artists, bands, and tunes? No, absolutely not but it's connecting with someone who gets it -- that's special to me. The ever elusive unicorn understands the assignment when asked their favorite song by an artist/band. You see, there are no right or wrong answers. The unicorn gets that it's not a test with one finite response. It's OK to reply with a veritable laundry list. I see you, unicorn.
Now, go forth and instead of being your own harshest critic today, be your own biggest cheerleader. No need to be down in a hole forever. It's time to fly.
