One of These Nights, Eagles, 1975
Sometimes, the Eagles serve as my soul's house band. Don Henley is my life's narrator and his drums are the beat of my heart. The guitar solos hold me and rock me just like melting into the arms of the most perfect dance partner. Thank you, universe. Thank you, music that raised me.
You know, there are things we need in life and then there are things we want. Sometimes, we barely know what we need. Other times, we're so tired from tending to our basic needs that we simply do not have the energy to want for anything. We just can't. I get it. Sometimes, though, we need what we want and we want what we need. Beautiful.
It's true, sometimes, it's better to keep life simple. It's better to streamline our needs and deny our wants. That's self-protection mode, right? Fear lies to us and we're so beat down that we listen. No fun at all but we do what we have to do in order to survive and that's OK. That's how this song feels to me ... like survival. It feels like self-imposed loneliness, too. Punishment. But it also feels like the fear that comes with hope.
You know what? One of these nights, this song will finally feel like happiness. Swear I'm gonna find you.
Happy Saturday!
