Thunder Kiss '65, White Zombie, 1992
This old lady loves this song. Mtv was still around in 1992, ya know. It was still the most likely place I would hear/see new music, too. Enter Rob Zombie, friends.
I wish you could've been there. Music was fun, fresh, and new and so was Mtv. I wish I could explain to younger generations how exciting it was to live in the Mtv age. No, it wasn't the same as looking up a song or artist on YouTube. No. Mtv had the unexpected randomness of a radio-style format but in visual form. Nothing now compares to that experience.
Thank you, Mtv, for exposing me to bands like White Zombie. There's no way Thunder Kiss 65 would've ever made it to my Alabama ears without Mtv. The first time I heard this song/saw the video, I was hanging with Beavis and Butthead. Yep, that's how I met Rob Zombie 30+ years ago -- life changed.
I love this song. It makes me think of my ex-husband, which is never a bad thing. We were married young and I have to say, it was pretty great growing up with him. We both fell hard for this song/artist. Absolutely unique. Hot. In your face.
One of my music friends just made a really thoughtful post about Mtv and Rob Zombie's artistry a few days ago. I'm still reeling over how someone is here one day and gone the next. I'll miss you, Jeff, but it's time for you to talk music in the afterlife. ❤️
Live life out loud, y'all.
