Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away), Deftones, 1997
After loving the Deftones for pretty much three decades, I saw them for the first time this past Wednesday night and it was perfect. So blown away. Apparently, Gen Z loves the Deftones, too, y'all. Wow. It was so great being destroyed with them. There is hope for the future after all.
Listen, I'm just gonna say it ... we're all getting older but some of us are getting hotter and better, too. Case in point: Chino Moreno. Holy f*ck, y'all. He's 51 and he looks and sounds better than he ever has before. His energy, his depth of talent -- so very impressive -- but he also radiates authenticity and joy. Chino was something to behold. Inspiring. I was so sad when the show was over.
Don't you just love it when one of your favorite bands tours again out of the blue? Don't you just love it when one of your favorite bands -- who's been around 30+ years and hasn't had a new album in about five years -- sells out an arena and you're there to get wrecked? Don't you just love it when one of your favorite bands opens their show with your favorite song? Yeah you do. Thank you, Deftones.
