Freedom 90, George Michael, 1990


Happy Spring Break 2025! Hello, Freedom 2025! Yeah, I know that's not a thing except that maybe it is ... hmmm. It's pretty cool how Freedom 90 is the song echoing in the empty, stress-free Monday morning chambers of my mind right now. One of my most favorite songs ever.


I love this song so much. I unironically love George Michael. From an American viewpoint, I think he's one of the most underrated artists of the past 40+ years. Sure, he's iconic for a lot of really cool reasons -- reasons unrelated to his music -- but George's art can stand on its own merit. Fight me on it.


George's Freedom 90 lyrics are so encouraging. This is such a good song. Seriously, listen to it. Some of most favorite lyrics, ever. So perfect. Seriously, listen without prejudice. This song is honest, vulnerable, and empowering. George was born a wordsmith and a skilled producer, too. He was an artist who knew how to use his voice in all the most important ways. Art.
