Use Me, Zach Top, 2024
When someone tells you/shows you who they are, believe them. This has been (and still is) the most difficult life lesson for me to learn. Needless to say, I heard this song and took immediate ownership. This song has an honesty to it that reminds me it's OK to take chances and be vulnerable. This song reminds me I am human and being human makes life interesting.
It doesn't happen often but occasionally, I latch on to a new country song. I think it's a mix of this song's rich, buttery vocals and its super sappy lyrics that pushed it through my usual judgy music snob filters with little or no resistance. For whatever reason, this song went straight to my heart. I LIVE these lyrics. Period.
I'm a sucker for a young singer/songwriter, ya know -- but it's not often that I'm drawn to a male country voice. I mostly gravitate toward female voices but this Zach Top guy has a really nice tone. His sound is reminiscent of that late 80s/early 90s traditional country revival led by Clint and Garth and Dwight and George.
God I love this song. I could talk about it for days. All hail the Bill Withers, BTW. All hail courage and vulnerability.
Happy Monday!
