Undone (The Sweater Song), Weezer, 1992

Every sound ... every syllable of this song is perfection. The lyrics are golden. The title itself is pure brilliance -- Undone the Sweater Song ... yes, please. I love the flow and vibe of this song. It's so visual and animated -- like a scene from a musical. The entire song, I think, plays out as a dare.

Such a clever use of a familiar turn of phrase. Although Weezer is a California band, I like how "coming undone" is kindred to the Southern colloquialism of having a come apart. I get it.

It's the simple truth of how pulling one little thread can trigger a big effect. That one thread serves as a building block for the overall integrity of something much bigger than itself. Sometimes, that thread is your literal frayed ends of sanity (bonus reference, get it?) barely intact. It's so hard to resist pulling that loose thread ... sometimes, you just have to do it and release the destruction. One small act can completely wreck a person. The unraveling is inevitable but at least it's better when it's by your own hand, right?

We saw Weezer a few years back at Ascend in Nashville. Honestly, we were there to see the opening act -- the Pixies -- and considered Weezer to be a consolation prize. After years of being a passive fan, I became a full-on Weezer convert after that show. So impressive. Good stuff. Solid. Tight. Fun.
