Loser, Beck, 1993
What a great song. I hear this intro and I slide right into the most mellow funky groove ever. Beck is good for the soul, y'all. Loser is my Monday morning mantra. Every single syllable is pure brilliance disguised as nonsense. Yo, cut it.
"Kill the headlights and put it in neutral." Ahh. One of my all-time favorite lyrics. It's a super simple sentence illustrating a covert action. Raise your hand if you've literally killed the headlights and put it in neutral. Yeah. Back in the day, I did this too many times to count when I was -- you guessed it -- up to no good.
When I was listening to Beck yesterday, this song hit me on a much deeper level than it ever had before. Yes. I very much need to figuratively "kill the headlights and put it in neutral." Good grief. Otherwise, this failing body of mine is not going to withstand another 14 years in the workforce. Excruciating pain and indescribable exhaustion = no tolerance for bullshit. You can't write if you can't relate. Know what I mean?
I wonder if we'll ever get another Beck album. Maybe this will be the year. I need a win.
Happy Monday!
