I Need a Lover, John Mellencamp, 1978

My first waking thought this morning was -- wait for it ... I need one of those handy dandy days of the week pill sorter container thingies. Yep.

But then, thankfully, the anti old lady part of me that's left was quick to counter with -- "oh no, what you actually need is a lover." Well, ain't that the truth? Yes. Lord knows I need a lover that won't drive me crazy. And that's how this song lodged itself in my head and is showing out as my song of the day right now.

Talk about a great song, y'all. This song makes me think of two very special people. One I met 40+ years ago and the other came into my life I'm guessing around 25 years ago. The former was the first person to tell me I'm a lot. Well, he was the first person who told me and it went straight to my heart right before he walked away. The latter is the only person to ever tell me I'm a lot and stick around for the incessant aftermath. It takes all types, y'all, to make the world go round. Unconditional love is everything.

Leave it to good ole Johnny Cougar to bring the hard truths on a bleak midwinter of a f*cking Monday morning.
