Southern Comfort, Larkin Poe, 2022
Holy smokes. This song stops me in my tracks every single time. That twangy bluesy little intro oozes attitude dripping with gumption that fills me up. Dang it. You know what? Thank you, universe, my pretty power could stand a Larkin Poe infusion. Let me put on my cowboy boots, y'all, I'm feeling my raising. Let me hitch a ride back to where I came from. What's that, sisters? "Don't give a damn what folks like you think." Heard.
This song has every single thing that I need. Trust me, it has what you need, too. It literally hits home. I really don't think it's possible for a song to be any more perfect. In terms of genre(s), this one song has it all. It's a spicey brew of Southern rock, blues, country, and metal with a pinch of folky familial harmonies seasoned with punk rock attitude and sprinkled with riot girl energy. More, please.
I love that this song speaks my language. This song is where I come from, where I've been, where I am right now, and where I'm going. Yep. That's right -- this song is everything. It's worthy of anthem status but its substance lifts it even higher.
I can thank my good ole bff for turning me on to Larkin Poe. Thank you, bestie. BTW -- the sisters have a new album, Bloom, coming out at the end of the month.
2025 is going to be a bitch, y'all, and Southern Comfort is my theme song. I can't beat 'em so I might as well join 'em. Look out.
Happy Saturday!
