Rise Above, Black Flag, 1981
"This is punk rock time."
Have y'all seen the clip of Henry Rollins reminding us that Joe Strummer trained us for this dystopia?
It is so very fitting that uncle Henry and Black Flag have held me tightly the past few days. The strength of Black Flag's music has propped me up enough to keep doing this daily walk despite immense disappointment. Extreme situations call for extreme measures -- that's the only way I can explain Black Flag being my comfort music of choice.
Mercy. Never in a million years could I have predicted this bizarro Black Flag world. I mean, I totally dig Black Flag but it's not my go-to everyday listening. I can only remember one other time in my life that I turned to Black Flag on repeat for comfort -- after 9/11. Yeah. There's a hard-hitting truth.
You know, Rollins being the voice of reason in this upside down is actually pretty damn poetic. We are punk rock.
