A Fragile Thing, The Cure, 2024

Satisfying. Gratifying. Mesmerizing. The Cure's new album dropped yesterday and it's pretty dang perfect. It is all the good "ings," y'all. What a wonderful late career gift from an iconic band/artist that helped spin my life's narrative every step of the way.

I am convinced -- Songs of a Lost World was truly written for me as the soundtrack to my own final stand. Thank you, music gods. If this is the last album The Cure gifts us, -- Robert Smith's denouement, if you will -- I don't think there could have been a better collection of swan songs for either of us.

When A Fragile Thing came out a few weeks ago as a harbinger of The Cure goodness to come, I was awestruck by its poignancy. No, "there's nothing you can do to change the end." How sobering is that lyric? Just wow. Think about it. The end is absolutely inevitable but the ending -- ie how this all ends -- is not predetermined.

I'm not done, yet, y'all. Love is absolutely a fragile thing and living life is brave. That's why I'm here writing this new story filled with firsts until the end finds me.

You promised me forever. Not terrifying at all.

Happy Saturday! Watch The Cure's Show of a Lost World Troxy concert.
