Black Lodge, Anthrax, 1993
Black Lodge absolutely makes the top 50 cut of my all-time favorite songs, y'all. Yes, it's mega dark but bless my mega dark soul, I think that's part of the reason I love it so much. It's filled with a nourishing sort of mega dark energy -- you know what I mean?
I'm a huge Anthrax fan, BTW, going back to the beginning of time -- that should surprise no one. It makes me sad knowing some people will never give this song a chance because it's labeled as "metal." Why would anyone limit and deprive themselves like that? This song is edifying -- it is beautifully deep and emotional. Listen.
Every single word of this song is part of my narrative -- my backstory. Writing this right now, I'm realizing the source of why I love this song is even darker than the song itself. That's a story for another day.
Y'all know I'm an Eric Alper fan, right? Around this time last year, he posed this question: What's the darkest song you enjoy listening to? Hmm. Now that's a fun one to ponder this spooky season. Go!
