Peek-A-Boo, Siouxie and the Banshees, 1988
Fair warning: If I ever @you with a jump scare, I'll say "Peek-a-boo" just like Siouxie does in this song.
A few months ago, I ran across my Siouxie Peepshow cassette from back in the day. Then last week, I saw the coolest Siouxie meme. Oh yeah. You guessed it -- game on -- time to revisit my 80s obsession with the (post) punk and goth queen mother icon that is the one and only Siouxie Sioux. Bow down.
You know this song, right? Christine gets the prize for being the first Banshees song I ever heard but Spellbound and Cities of Dust are consistently my "most listened to" favorite Banshees tunes. For whatever reason, though, Peek-A-Boo is the Banshees song that attaches itself to me most often in my daily walk. I'm so very OK with that -- lucky me. I am this song's favorite person.
No matter if we want to or not, sometimes we outgrow people, places, and things. We just do. Sometimes we don't, though. Sometimes, we think we've outgrown something but then, it finds its way back into our life and fits once again. When I see myself do old lady things or hear myself say old lady shit, I get sad. I admit it, being old makes me sad but then Siouxie picks me up, dusts me off, and smacks my ass into gear -- she rings in my ears (mocking me) asking, "golly jeepers, where'd you get those weepers?"
Get over yourself, M.
Never forget: She did it first; she did it best. BTW, it's pronounced, "Suzi" -- IYKYK. You're welcome.
