Mama Said Knock You Out, L.L. Cool J, 1991

Some songs flip my badass switch and this is one of them. My entire essence kicked into overdrive when I heard this song yesterday morning -- it happens like that every single time. The first note always transforms me into some sort of "I've got this" ninja. The universe knows what we need, y'all.

Yeah, I still know all the words. I can't even tell you how often a line from this song pops into my head and gives me strength to persevere. My current line du jour ... listen to the way I slay your crew. Yep. That's me always slaying my way through life.

I wish everyone could have experienced music in the 80s. It was all over the place. Some of it was/is so bad that it's good. Witnessing the rise of rap and hip hop, though, was a treat of historical proportions. I am so thankful for my era. I don't know who I would be without that experience and those influences.

Oh, and, excuse me for objectifying another human being but can we just talk about how this man is ridiculously beautiful? He gets better and better with each passing year. I can relate. We're the same in that regard -- maybe that's why I love him so much.

Happy Saturday!
