Suspicious Minds, Elvis Presley, 1969

Can we talk about the movie, "Elvis?" Anybody? Thoughts? Austin Butler = A+ but I needed it to be way more Bazzy ...

All things considered, not a bad Labor Day weekend so far thanks to Elvis. Ahh, Elvis. I'm a little ashamed to admit that I don't have strong feelings about Elvis one way or the other ... my lukewarmness is difficult to describe, though. It's like he's an urban myth or something. I know I take him for granted.

Elvis is so beautiful -- like other-worldy beautiful to me. There's such an interesting air of humor about him, too -- he exudes a youthful mischievousness. His voice is rich and true and easy ... so effortless. His voice -- both his speaking voice and his singing voice -- they're just so familiar, though. I didn't appreciate his singing voice's depth until I was an adult for sure.

People my age knew Elvis in a weird way. He died when we were little kids, so we mostly knew him through the obsessed adults in our lives. I have a strong false memory of my childhood friend's mother being absolutely inconsolable the day he died ... it's pretty bizarre. It hasn't been that long ago that I realized it couldn't have happened the way I "remember." It just doesn't add up.

I love this song. It has been with me through the many phases of my life. I do my best channeling of Elvis via this song. I dig comeback era Elvis so much. I relate.
