Sometimes You Have to Work on Christmas, Harvey Danger, 2004

Have you ever heard this song? It makes me smile. Yes, indeed -- the movie theater is always open but this song makes me think of all those holidays I worked during my tenure in print news media. Back then, putting out a daily print newspaper meant weekends and holidays be damned. Someone had to work. Sure, if stories were filed in advance and there were no deadline stories pending, roughly 95% -- maybe even 98% -- of the pages could be built and sent to the press early. Even so, though, someone still had to babysit that last little bit by staying the course deadline-wise as a "breaking news" watchdog.

I laugh out loud at how we all took it so seriously -- doing the good work. It was so important, ya know? Yeah -- apparently not.  New world order and all.

Listen to this and smile. Who's been to the movies on Christmas day?
