Part 6: We are the 70s
Lenny LeBlanc and Gary Baker took the Shoals Theatre stage during night one, set one of Muscle Shoals Meets the 70s and I could barely contain my excitement. When Lenny said (referring to himself and Gary), "We ARE the 70s," we all laughed and I muttered to myself, "Yes you are; this is going to be good."
Good doesn’t even come close to describing this sixth performance of night one. I was absolutely mesmerized by Lenny on guitar and Gary on bass -- their vocals were simply sheer perfection. Falling is such a soothing, hopeful song. I want to feel how this song makes me feel all the time. Watching Fiddleworm, Scott Todd, singing along in the upstage right shadows was pretty moving, too. Y'all know, I'll fangirl over Lenny for hours on end -- add Gary to the mix, and the Fiddleworms, AND the Shoals Strings ... mercy! I'll probably be talking about this truly special live performance of Falling for the rest of my life. Better get used to it, friends.
I love introducing people my age and younger to this LeBlanc/(Pete) Carr penned 1970s chart-topper. Falling is one of the most beautiful songs ever written and represents the epitome of the 1970s easy listening genre but it's also a timeless classic. Sure, Falling has a magical quality that kept in on the charts for 30+ weeks back in the late 1970s but it's just as alluring to 21st century hearts as it was back in the day. A great song isn't bound by an era or supposed genre, friends. Thank you, Lenny LeBlanc, for this eternal gift.
More to come ... stay tuned.
Dig worms.
