Part 5: If the house is a rockin’ …
*Just sayin'. I am heartbroken over losing Steve Price. I don't remember ever not knowing him. I don't think he ever met a stranger. I don't think there's a single person who didn't genuinely like him and consider him a friend. The theatre felt different this past weekend without him. When Russell Mefford mentioned from stage Steve's ongoing health struggles, I wrote this in my notebook: I hate that Steve is missing the show. The show goes on, friends, I know Steve would want it that way. Steve will never miss another show ... oh my heart.
My heart ... my heart skipped a beat when I saw the night one Muscle Shoals Meets the 70s setlist for the first time. Are you kidding me, universe? James LeBlanc and Angela Hacker performing Bad Company’s Feel Like Making Love in Florence’s historic Shoals Theatre? Thank you, sir! May I have another?
You know, my classic rock badge of honor may be a little frayed around the edges but I can assure you – my love for Bad Company makes up for any of my classic rock shortcomings. I love Bad Company and Feel Like Making Love is one of the best rocking slow burns of all time. It's not up for discussion.
It's possible that I'm mis-remembering but I think the lineup I saw early on had Bay Simpson joining James and Angela on stage, too. That would've been super cool but having Steve Vickery front and center with the dynamic duo was pretty dang perfect. What a great rendition of a great song.
This song is a testament to the power of good music. Yep, just sayin', this one has stayed in my heart for 40 years and now, this very special performance lives there, too. Writing this right here and right now, Steve is in my heart, too. I can see his million dollar mischievous smile in my mind's eye. It's a little different context from the song's intent but "when I think about you, I think about love" -- forever and ever amen.
More to come ... stay tuned.
Dig worms.
*Prayers for comfort to my Shoals family as we all grieve the loss of Steve Price. Heaven truly gained an angel, y'all.
