Part 3: Name that tune
Fiddleworm extraordinaire, Clint Bailey, brought some serious 70s energy to Florence’s Shoals Theatre on Friday night at Muscle Shoals Meets the 70s. From his far out fit and groovy key action to his spot-on stellar vocals, Clint brought the party with his rendition of Boston’s Foreplay/Long Time. We were all clapping and singing along to this rock n’ roll classic.
Just wow. Everyone was giving it their all and this third performance of the night was total fire. Here's something from my notes, “How can THIS song be so funky? I don’t even like this song! I don’t even like Boston, but I LOVE this!” There’s just something about live music that changes the game, y’all.
Yeah, so … I'm going to let you in on a little secret: I am not a Boston fan. Like, at all. Up until I fell down this 70s music rabbit hole a few months back, I had no idea the actual title of this Boston song is Foreplay/Long Time. I always thought it was just Long Time. I know, I hang my head in shame but please don’t judge me, friends.
Now, brace yourselves for a classic compliment sandwich being served up to Clint: No, I’m not a Boston fan but the music is good, and I enjoy it when it’s on the radio and whatnot, I just don’t choose to listen to Boston. Please read this next sentence as if it’s being spoken by the Dos Equis most interesting man in the world: I don't listen to Boston but when I do, I want it to be Clint Bailey’s Fiddleworms and friends’ version of Foreplay/Long Time. Yes.
Right on. And, you best believe, I’m taking my time.
More to come … stay tuned.
Dig Worms, friends.
